This winter getaway will leave you speechless!
We headed to Margaritaville Hotel Kansas City for the weekend and it was the perfect winter escape. This Margaritaville location opened in June 2025 and it is so modern and nicely decorated. Our family was really impressed!
Margaritaville Hotel Kansas City (1491 N 98th St, Kansas City, KS 66111) was just a 3.5 hour drive from St. Louis, which was a good distance for traveling with kids. We’ve made this drive quite a few times now and it is a great, quick drive. We stayed for 2 nights (Friday and Saturday nights).
Friday (Day 1):
We pulled up after the sun set and saw all of the incredible Christmas lights and decorations! We checked into our room, carried our bags in and then participated in our first free family activity of the weekend: a guided painting class. Each of us got a canvas and paint. An instructor led us in a sunrise painting, but you could also paint whatever you wanted to!
After the painting class, we walked down the hallway to LandShark Bar & Grill. The service was quick and the food was so tasty! I really liked that there was a Little Shark menu with many options for our kids to choose from. At 7pm, live music started and my kids had a blast dancing to the music!
We then headed out to the Frosted Cabanas, which were next to the outdoor pool. The Frosted Cabanas were so peaceful! There was a heater, a tv showing a crackling fireplace, a bluetooth speaker (we played Christmas music) and hot chocolate! We also had snacks and enjoyed the speciality menu of seasonal food and drinks. Our family’s favorite was the Build Your Own S’mores. It came with house-made graham crackers, chocolate ganache, toasted marshmallows and fresh strawberries. There were games in the cabana too–we played Jenga! The lights and decor were wonderful and we loved it.
We returned to our hotel room for the night. The hotel rooms were very family-friendly. Our family had a connecting room and there was plenty of room for the six of us. Everything was beach-themed and had great pops of color. The balcony had beautiful views during the day and night.

Saturday (Day 2):
We ate breakfast at Joe’s Merchant Coffee & Provisions. This is located in the lobby and has a great selection of breakfast foods, coffee and snacks. We ate fresh-made smoothies, breakfast sandwiches and pastries to fuel up for the pool!
After breakfast, we changed into our swimsuits and headed to the indoor pool! We stayed here and swam for close to 6 hours. There was a NINJA obstacle course and a rock climbing wall. My daughters are 8yo, 6yo, 4yo and 2yo. They all loved the obstacle course, even my 2yo who liked hanging by the monkey bars (with our help of course)! My 8yo’s favorite was climbing up the rock climbing wall and then jumping into the pool.Â

For lunch, we didn’t want to leave the pool area yet! So, luckily there was a take-out window to LandShark Bar & Grill. We ate burgers and grilled cheese on the pool deck at one of the tables. It was a great day of swimming!
After swimming, we enjoyed more free family entertainment of bracelet making in the lobby. There was an instructor that helped measure string, add clasps and help find special beads. There were so many beads to choose from!Â
We ate at LandShark Bar & Grill for dinner. We heard more live music and then played at the arcade. The arcade was fun with a variety of games to play.Â
Sunday (Day 3):
We packed up our room and headed to the lobby for bagels and smoothies at Joe’s Merchant Coffee & Provisions. So tasty! We were all sad to leave to drive back home. This weekend was so rejuvenating and we were so relaxed.
From the great Christmas decorations to the fantastic staff, this family getaway was a dream! I can’t recommend it enough. We all had a wonderful time.
